Our Story

The Heart Behind SETI

Creating space for healing through the honest and enduring bond between humans and horses.

Where it began

Where Professional Purpose and Personal Healing Came Together

SETI began where professional purpose and personal healing came together.

As a mental-health and wellness RN, equine instructor, and lifelong horse owner, William understood that healing does not always begin with words. He had witnessed the challenges experienced by people living with PTSD and other mental-health struggles, while also recognizing the remarkable way horses respond to human emotion, body language, tension, and trust.

Unlike people, horses do not judge, criticize, or ask someone to explain what they are feeling. They respond honestly to what is happening in the present moment.

How connection works

Horses Respond Honestly to the Present Moment

Through grooming, leading, groundwork, quiet companionship, and touch, people can begin to recognize their own emotions, develop confidence, practice trust, and experience a deeper sense of connection.

Who we serve

Built to Share the Experience With as Many People as Possible

The Somatic Equine Therapy Initiative was created to share that experience with as many people as possible.

  • First responders
  • Veterans and active-duty service members
  • Individuals living with PTSD or trauma-related challenges
  • People rebuilding their confidence
  • Anyone who wants to better understand and connect with horses

Our approach

Every Connection Is Different

SETI is not built around forcing conversation or following one rigid path. Every connection is different. Sometimes growth happens while guiding a horse through an obstacle. Sometimes it begins with learning how to approach safely, establish trust, or remain calm and focused.

Other times, it happens simply by standing quietly beside a horse and realizing that connection does not always require words.

Horses are not a replacement for professional mental-health treatment. SETI honors the unique role they can play in helping people develop awareness, trust, connection, and confidence.
