Groundwork Therapy
Building Trust, Confidence, and Connection
Through the horse-human relationship—no horse experience required.
Inside a session
Simple Activities, Meaningful Possibilities
Every experience follows the pace of the person and the horse. Select an activity to learn what it can invite you to explore.
GroomingBeginning the connection
Intentional, respectful touch creates space to slow down and notice the horse’s breathing, posture, movement, and response—while becoming more aware of your own.
- Being comfortable with closeness
- Giving and receiving appropriate touch
- Respecting boundaries
- Patience, body awareness, and calm breathing
LeadingLearning to communicate
Walking, stopping, changing direction, and moving together allow you to explore communication without relying entirely on words.
- Clear and intentional communication
- Listening while expressing what you need
- Confidence and healthy boundaries
- Responding to honest, immediate feedback
ObstaclesBuilding confidence one step at a time
Set across four acres of open field, our course is built from the land itself—weathered timber, stone, and natural terrain, rearranged often enough that no two sessions are alike. The aim is not speed, but noticing how you respond when the path in front of you isn't what you expected.
- Slowing down instead of rushing
- Trying another approach
- Tolerating uncertainty
- Experiencing tangible confidence and success
Round-pen workFinding your presence
Observation, movement, and quiet time in the round pen reveal how much communication happens through breath, body, attention, and space.
- Becoming aware of your body
- Releasing the need to control the outcome
- Practicing grounded attention
- Becoming comfortable in the moment

A different kind of conversation
You Do Not Have to Know Anything About Horses
Work beside a horse through simple, purposeful activities—grooming, leading, walking, obstacles, and round-pen work.
Horses communicate without words, responding to movement, breathing, posture, energy, and boundaries.
Simple activities invite you to slow down, be present, and build confidence and trust with another living being. The horse offers honest, immediate feedback. You don’t have to perform or get everything right—just be present.
